Your 5-Step Setup Process
Follow these essential steps to initialize your device securely. This entire process should take about 20 minutes. Do it in a private, quiet space.
Step 1: Unbox & Install Ledger Live
Unpack your new Ledger device. Go to the official Ledger website to download and install the Ledger Live application on your computer or smartphone. This is your secure portal to the crypto world.
Step 2: Connect & Power On
Connect your Ledger device to your computer using the provided USB cable. Follow the on-screen instructions to power it on and navigate the initial setup prompts using the device's buttons.
Step 3: Create Your PIN
Set a 4 to 8-digit PIN code directly on your device. This PIN protects your device from unauthorized physical access. Confirm your PIN, and remember it—you'll need it every time you use your Ledger.
Step 4: Record Your Recovery Phrase
Your device will display a unique 24-word recovery phrase. This is the single most important step. Write down these words on the provided recovery sheet in the correct order. This phrase is the master key to all your crypto assets.
Step 5: Verify & Complete
Your device will ask you to confirm your recovery phrase by selecting the words in the correct order. Once verified, your device is ready. You can now pair it with Ledger Live and start managing your assets.

What You MUST Do
- Only download Ledger Live from ledger.com.
- Write down your 24-word recovery phrase yourself.
- Store your recovery sheet in a secure, private, and durable location (e.g., a safe).
- Always verify transaction details on your Ledger device's screen before confirming.
What You MUST NOT Do
- Never enter your 24-word recovery phrase on any website or app.
- Never take a photo or create a digital copy of your recovery phrase.
- Never share your PIN code or recovery phrase with anyone, including Ledger support.
- Never use a pre-configured device or a recovery phrase that you did not generate yourself.
